| The Sophie La Roche museum is accommodated in the former forest prison, in the close vicinity of the late Baroque palace built in 1756 for Friedrich Graf Stadion. Sophie La Roche (1730-1807) founded her fame as the first German writer of merit with her story "Story of the lady from Sternheim" that was completed there in 1770/71. Wieland and Goethe enthusiastically praised her novels, Sophie's varied biography (among others the Musenhof des Grafen Stadion von Warthausen, her famous literary salon in Ehrenbreitstein, her "Grillenhütte" in Offenbach) and her comprehensive Oeuvre - novel and stories, educational writings and travel books are appropriately presented. Through the presentation, Sophie La Roche is projected as a feminine life's model in the 18th century, the age of enlightenment and sensitivity. | ||||
